TAINAN, Taiwan (AP) — Rescuers are searching for more than 100 people missing after a powerful, shallow earthquake struck southern Taiwan.

The magnitude-6.4 quake killed at least 14 people, most of them in the collapse of a 17-story residential building. The spectacular fall of the building in Tainan raised questions about its construction, and Taiwan’s interior minister said there would be an investigation.

The emergency management information center says rescuers pulled out at least 247 survivors from the collapsed building. Throughout the city, 334 people were rescued.

Hundreds of people were injured in the quake, but most of them have been released from hospitals.
