The Sharp Side on THANKFUL THURSDAY: The “Something Good”
It’s kind of been a weird week, to say the (very) least. I don’t like to leave you hanging, but instead of spending my time (and yours) explaining the bad – I want to focus on the “good.”
I found this quote last week and I keep going back to it to read it over and over again. Unfortunately, the author is unknown: “Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.“ It’s such a great daily reminder. I wish I could wake up and have it be the first thing I hear in my head. I wonder if Siri does that…
So – to say a big ol’ THANK YOU to “author unknown” – I decided I would share with you my “something good” of the day. However, as I went through the day, that list grew and grew. Funny how that works when you’re paying attention…
It was so refreshing to walk outside and feel the sunshine this morning. Is it seriously only February 4th? I can’t wait until July 4th. Or March 4th. February is just the longest-shortest, shortest-longest month ever.
I absolutely adore Shine Yoga Studio in Moline. The instructors and people here are so welcoming and accepting. I usually take Daina’s Yoga Shred Class. I always look forward to seeing her and I learn something new every single time.
I have to say I’m very thankful I have short legs… at least at this moment. My normal-length pants go over my heels and keep my feet warm on my freezing cold yoga mat. Why do I keep this thing in the trunk of my car during the winter?!
As I go through the movements, I’m realizing how strong I feel… first time in a week. I am really in tune with my body these days and for that reason I feel scared, but steady as I hit all the poses and planks.
10:10am: YOGA Continued…
At the end of class, we’re laying in Savasana and “Suit and Tie” by Justin Timberlake begins on Daina’s mix. This is why I love this place.
One word – Target.
I find the 30-50% off section. Thank goodness tomorrow is Pay Day.
This dog just cracks me up. He is just like me and Zach. He hates the cold, loves the sun, and lives for naps. I come down the stairs on my way out the door for work and he is on the couch almost camouflaged into this blanket (a blanket I got ZACH for Christmas, but of course – it’s now Zuno’s).
As I give him annoying puppy-parent kisses and talk to him like a freakin’ human, I realize I really need to re-start the Terrier Tuesday posts on The Sharp Side. He is just too funny.
1pm: GO RED
The first thing I did when I got into work today was do an interview for National Wear Red Day, which is tomorrow. Please participate! (Here’s more info)
I am so proud to be part of this great cause in the Quad Cities. However, it makes me miss my Dad (I just saw him on Monday, ha) and I miss planning our annual “Go Red For Women” Lunch, which doesn’t take place until the fall. Girls – I want a meeting at River House soon!
3pm: JEFFERSON AWARDS
Another thing I love to be a part of. You’ve read my past post about the Jefferson Awards (Oh – you haven’t? Well, here it is!) and we’re nearing the end of our 2nd Season. Today, I finished writing my report on our 6th Nominee. These people are just incredible. The QCA is so lucky to have them and it is an honor to be able to tell their stories.
7pm: CROCK POT
With my new schedule, crock pot recipes and casseroles are the new go-to. There’s just not enough time to come home, make dinner, eat dinner, give Zuno more annoying kisses, and get back to work in my hour-long dinner break. I’m totally fine with it though. I love the fact that when I leave for work at 12:45pm, “make dinner” is already checked off the to-do list.
On the menu tonight, Chicken Parmesan and IT WAS AMAZING… if I do say so myself. For the recipe, click here.
8:59pm: MY HAPPY PLACE
I am on the desk ready to anchor the news. Blessed.
10:15pm: MY OTHER HAPPY PLACE
There is no more make-up on my face and no more hairspray in my hair. I have my fleece-lined leggings on, a glass of red wine in my hand, a puppy in my lap, and the Project Runway Junior Finale on the DVR. Crap – Where are the tissues?
11:55pm: THE LAST MINUTES
With just 5 minutes left in the day, I’m reading through and finishing up this post.
(Ew. Zuno just ate a ladybug that was crawling around. Gross! How do I get rid of these things?)
ANYWAY… I’m so glad I did this. I know it’s not realistic to be this positive – or this aware of everything around me – every single day, but it’s a nice reminder that if you look for it, there really is “something good” EVEN on the worst days. Maybe it’s just as simple as being here to experience it all – the good, the bad, and the ugly.
