Early voting for the March 15th Illinois primary started on Thursday, February 4th.

In Rock Island County, the only polling site open this early is the Rock Island County Building.

Early voters can cast their votes during the week, from 8 to 4:30. The county building will open on the weekends for early voters starting the last two weeks before the March primaries.

As opposed to times in the past, people don't need a reason or an I.D. to vote early.

Early voters will sign an application and the election judge will check their signature against their records to make sure they're registered.

"I see this as an opportunity to avoid long lines," said Karen Kinney, Rock Island County Clerk "Get in and out of here in three minutes versus election day when you may stand in line for 40-minutes."

"It will pick up as the days progress. I do remember back in 2012 our lines looping through the entire building going out the door, and that was a Saturday," Kinney said.

The Rock Island County Building is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the week. They will open for early voting during the weekend two weeks before the Illinois primary, 8 a.m. to noon.

Other Rock Island County early voting centers open on February 29th. That includes Western Illinois University, Silvis City Council Chambers, the Milan Municipal building and the Moline Public Library.
