Potential lead exposure at a Lacon, Illinois elementary school has prompted the Marshall County Health Department to offer free lead screenings to the school’s students, faculty and staff.
According to the department’s press release, Midland Elementary School is working with a lead risk assessment team to resolve the issue. Exposure occurs by breathing in or swallowing lead. The lead screenings involve a simple finger stick blood draw. Results of the tests will be mailed out in about a week.
The release did not specify how the department was alerted to concerns of lead poisoning at the school but encourage anyone to works at or attends the school who missed the screening to schedule an appointment later this week.
