CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — A 35-year-old rural Champaign woman has been charged with felony financial identity theft for allegedly using her mother’s name to obtain multiple credit cards.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that Sarah Hamilton was arrested Thursday and released from jail after posting bond. Online court records don’t list an attorney on her behalf.

Hamilton is accused of charging more than $9,000 on seven different credit cards opened in her 58-year-old mother’s name between August and November.

The News-Gazette report says Hamilton was busted after her mother discovered the cards, threw her out and called police.  Police said Hamilton admitted to the thefts, and blamed a substance abuse problem for her conduct.
