A note that included the threat of a January 22 shooting at Moline High School “is not credible,” according to the Moline-Coal Valley Schools superintendent.
An anonymous note, written in pencil, was recently found in a bathroom stall at Moline High School. The note included the threat of a January 22 shooting at the school.
“Unfortunately, anonymous threats like this occur too frequently in schools and public facilities,” said a January 15 statement from Superintendent Lanty McGuire. “Whenever this type of threat is identified within the Moline-Coal Valley Schools, the district, including Moline High School, responds with a thorough investigation and heightened awareness and security.
Police determined the threat is not credible, McGuire’s statement said.
“Most threatening communications of this type are intended to frighten, harass, annoy, and intimidate rather than to announce imminent violence,” the statement said.
Schools in the district will remain open, but additional Moline police officers will be in and around Moline High School on January 22.
