Several months after a Mendota, Illinois teen was killed in a hit-and-run, an Oglesby, Illinois man was charged in connection.

The hit-and-run happened on August 30, 2015, according to previous reports. Jacqueline Martinez, 19, was walking with a 17-year-old boy and two other juveniles when they were reportedly struck by a vehicle on a farm road in a rural area of Leepertown Township. Martinez was killed in the incident.

The Bureau County Sheriff’s Department said that 20-year-old Jose L. Torres was arrested on January 12, 2016 and was being held in the LaSalle County Jail for concealing collateral.  Three days later, on January 15, Torres was charged with failure to report an accident involving death.

“The allegations state that Torres is the driver of a vehicle that struck and caused the death of Jaquelin Martinez-Maldonado…” said the sheriff’s statement.

Torres was held for the two charges on a total of $400,000 bond, the statement said.
