Police said a 15-year-old driver was cited after he lost control and crashed into a vehicle heading the opposite direction on Highway 61 in Mediapolis, Iowa.

The teen, from Burlington, was northbound on Highway 61 near 210th Street when he lost control of his vehicle around 7:30 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016, according to a statement from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen’s vehicle struck a southbound vehicle, sending the southbound vehicle into the ditch and causing it to overturn, police said.   The southbound vehicle came to rest in a field.  The 34-year-old Morning Sun man who was driving, and his 21-year-old passenger, went by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The teen was cited for failure to maintain control, police said.
