Davenport School district is getting a look at the next three years in budget cuts.
Tonight, District Superintendent, Dr. Art Tate, will present a preliminary three-year draft for the district’s budget.
In his draft, Tate outlines specific points throughout the district he thinks could be reduced to save money.
For the 2016-2017 fiscal year, some of the proposed cuts include reducing department budgets by five-percent, reducing sports at intermediate and high school levels, decreasing the amount of school days, and administrative reductions.
Cuts for the 2017-2018 fiscal year include department budget reductions, increasing class sizes at elementary and intermediate schools, switching from block to traditional scheduling, and early retirement savings.
The cuts for fiscal year 2018-2019 are in the same categories.
These numbers are preliminary numbers right now and will only be discussed in Monday’s school board meeting. Board members won’t need to submit a budget for the next school year until mid-April.
