Biggsville woman accused of stealing medication from patients in Danville, Iowa

An Illinois woman has been charged with taking pain medication meant for patients at Danville Care Center in Danville, Iowa.

DANVILLE, Iowa (AP) — An Illinois woman has been charged with taking pain medication meant for patients at Danville Care Center in Danville, Iowa.

Forty-three-year-old Sonja Hanks, of Biggsville, Illinois, was arrested Monday afternoon, January 4, 2016, on a warrant that listed three drug counts, and one for tampering with care center records. Her attorney didn't immediately return a call Thursday from The Associated Press, seeking comment on her behalf.

The Hawk Eye reports that court records say the medication, which Hanks obtained while working as a nurse at the center, was meant to be given to three patients from April to July 2015.

Jail records showed Hanks had already been released from the Des Moines County Jail; court records showed she was released after posting $152,000 bond.  She was next scheduled to appear in court January 21.
