More than 89,500 pounds of beef recalled for possible contamination with wood chips

More than 89,500 pounds of beef, sold nationwide as Sam’s Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion burgers, could be contaminated with wood chips.

More than 89,500 pounds of beef, sold nationwide as Sam's Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion burgers, could be contaminated with wood chips.

A recall notice for the product was issued Monday, January 4, 2016, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The recalled patties were sold in two-pound boxes containing six pieces, labeled “Sam’s Choice Black Angus Beef Patties with 19% Vidalia ® Onion.” The use by dates on the packages are 05/17/2016; 05/29/2016; and 06/06/2016, the recall notice said.  They were sold across the U.S.

The recalled packages also bear the establishment number “EST. 394A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

"The foreign material originated with an incoming ingredient and was discovered during production," the recall notice said.  "Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."

No injury or illness had been reported.
