The 2015-2016 ski season got a rocky start in the Quad Cities.

Ski Snowstar in Andalusia planned to open up Saturday, January 2, 2015. The ski hill started making snow on Tuesday, December 29, following a winter storm that passed through the area.

"This is a late start for us," said General Manager Dan McCanna, "normally we open around the second week of December, but you can control everything but Mother Nature."

North of the Quad Cities in Galena, Illinois, Chestnut Mountain had a later-than-usual start, bud did have five runs open on Tuesday.  They were expected to continue making snow and open more runs as they were able.

Sundown Mountain in Dubuque, Iowa opened up after getting seven inches of snow on Monday, December 28.
