Man dies after suffering head injury at cement plant in Buffalo, Iowa

A driver was reportedly injured in a workplace incident at a cement plant in Buffalo, Iowa.

A driver was reportedly injured in a workplace incident at a cement plant in Buffalo, Iowa.

Initial reports indicated a boom fell on a driver, on the quarry side of the Continental Cement facility at 301 E. Front Street, just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015.  Police later said the man was apparently struck in the head by a boom on a tow truck.

A helicopter ambulance was summoned but cancelled before it arrived.

"At the scene, the male was reported as in 'stable' condition and was transported to the hospital," said a statement, issued the day after the incident, from Sgt. Alex Gries of the Buffalo Police Department.  "While at the hospital, the male succumbed to his injuries and passed away."

The man's name was withheld until his family was properly notified.
