Thief caught on camera stealing Davenport Christmas decorations

A real-life Grinch was caught on camera stealing Christmas decorations from a Davenport family.

A real-life Grinch was caught on camera stealing Christmas decorations from a Davenport family.

Elizabeth Reed said she had just put up a row of lighted candy canes in front of her home on Tuesday, December 10, 2015, when they disappeared later that night.

The next day, she looked at footage from her home's security cameras -- and was shocked.

"It's just not right. I mean, it's Christmas. You're supposed to know what Christmas is supposed to be all about," said Reed.

The surveillance video shows a car pull up in front of the Madison Street home. Shortly after 8 p.m., someone gets out of the vehicle and looks around, before walking up towards the house, unplugging the Christmas lights, and leaving with them.

"It's kinda like there's a Grinch, driving around and taking lights," said Reed.

Reed said the lights weren't expensive. She's not upset about the cost, but is offended by the behavior.

"It's the principle, yes it is. It's just disrespectful, and, you know, I just want everybody to know," said Reed.

Reed said other items have been stolen from the yard in the past, which is why the family installed a security system.

They have filed a report with the Davenport Police Department.
