For students and staff at United Township High School, going shopping for Toys for Tots is a tradition spanning 20 years. It's an act of kindness that is even spreading joy to the students picking out the toys.

"I hope you feel that you're paying it forward. So, kudos to you," UTHS staff member Brad Burklund said.

It's one last night of Christmas shopping. Students with United Township are filling up their carts with toys, helping out Toys for Tots.

"It's fun. I feel like I'm really helping people. I like giving, not receiving. It's just the type of person I am," student Tyrzah Scott said.

"It's pretty cool. I have always heard about it, and it's a really cool thing and I'm glad I'm able to help out this year," student Morgan Smith said.

They go up and down each aisle looking for the perfect gifts.

"We got a lot of mixtures of boy and girl. They're all different age groups, we made sure we got a lot of different age groups," Scott said.

Picking out the right toy can be a challenge.

"I see all these cool toys, and I'm like lets get this and this and that, and I have to be like no, we have a budget," Smith said.

Not a problem this year. The students raised $1,700 just so they can buy as much as they can.

Their work doesn't end with the shopping. These students sort out the toys for the families who get them Christmas morning.

"It feels awesome. I like helping people out, and it's just really cool to help people out," Smith said.

A few hours of their time, for what could be a special Christmas memory for a local family.

"That's 8,500 smiles that they're going to get with your generosity," Burklund said.
