Free Christmas trees available for active-duty military in the Quad Cities

Active-duty members of the military got an early gift as a small token of appreciation for their service – Christmas trees.

Active-duty members of the military got an early gift as a small token of appreciation for their service - Christmas trees.

The Trees for Troops program delivered dozens of trees to the Rock Island Arsenal, Thursday, December 3, 2015, to be given at no charge to active duty military members, including guard and reserve.

"For a military family, home changes with every installation," said Army Col. Elmer Speights, "One of those additions, that makes a home a home, is the Christmas tree."

The trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis until December 10th or until they are gone.  Self-service pick up is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for those qualified service members.  For information, active-duty service members can call 309-782-4420.
