A man in a van allegedly tried to abduct an 11-year-old boy who was walking along a street in West Liberty, Iowa.

The boy was walking in the area of 4th and Columbus just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015, when he was approached by a white van, and the man driving the van told him to "get in," according to West Liberty Police Chief Mark Kopf.

The boy ran away from the van and went to the home of a friend, Kopf said.

Police checked the area but were unable to find the van or the driver; the van was last seen traveling northbound on Columbus.

The van was described as a white 'cube-style' van with no lettering on it and no windows in the back; it may have had a passenger-side cargo door.  The driver was described as a white man in his late 30s who was balding and had a dark, short beard.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the incident is asked to contact West Liberty Police at 319-627-2223.
