After the November 3 election resulted in no clear winner, voters will return to the polls to try again to select a mayor for the city of Clinton, Iowa.
Incumbent Mayor Mark Vulich, who has been mayor since 2012, received more votes than the other candidates in the municipal election held November 3, 2015.
In Clinton, however, a mayoral candidate needed more than just a simple majority of votes cast.
“Unofficially a candidate for Mayor needed at least 1,586 votes to win,” said a statement issued by Clinton election officials after results were tabulated. “No candidate achieved that threshold.”
Election results showed Vulich received a total of 1,294 votes cast November 3. Jennifer Graf received a total of 1,120 votes, Edward O’Neill received 742 votes, and 15 votes were cast for a write-in candidate.
A runoff election between the two top vote-getters – Vulich and Graf – was set for Tuesday, December 1, 2015.
