For the second time since August, Deere announced indefinite layoffs for workers in the Quad Cities.

After forecasting a decrease in sales, Deere & Company announced it will lay off approximately 220 employees at their seeding and cylinder facility in Moline, Illinois.

The announcement follows the company's fourth-quarter earnings statement November 25, 2015, in which they indicated worldwide net sales dropped by 25%.   At that time, Deere also forecast an addition 7% decline in sales for 2016.

After announcing third-quarter earnings in August 2015, Deere announced indefinite layoffs for about 150 workers at the Harvester Works in East Moline, and for about 30 workers at the Davenport Works.

The Moline layoffs will also be indefinite, with no specific call-back date, according to a November 30 statement from the company's Global Public Relations Director, Ken Golden.  He said the affected employees are "wage employees who work in manufacturing," and that the layoffs would take effect February 15, 2016.

"Deere said the actions are taken to align the size of the manufacturing workforce at individual factories with market demand for products made at each specific location," Golden said.

Workers at the Moline facility were told of the layoffs at meetings held Monday morning, November 30.
