A season of giving starts by spending.
"Mostly tools. Shopping for myself, but they are good deals, you can`t pass them up and you have to come out," shopper Mike Loos said.
"I've been buying more tools, I bought some cabinets, even more tools. A guy can never have enough tools," shopper Steve Albert said.
Thanksgiving Day deals have people rushing out to join in on what some are calling the Super Bowl of shopping.
"This is what you've waited to see for such a long time. It`s the excitement. When you come in and open the door and people come rushing in, it`s excitement," Sears store manager Carol Guetschow said.
Black Friday is all about the great deals, but everyone has their own motivation to come out during the Thursday and Friday shopping spree. Some show up for the entertainment.
"It's an event. I come out, get something to eat and watch the people. It's a people-watching event," Albert said.
Not waking up early on Friday to shop makes dealing with the crowds easier to handle.
"The 6:00 time is a good time I think. Everyone has pretty much had time to spend with their family, and they`re looking to go out and do something else," Loos said.
"It`s not really the retailers that have done it, it`s the consumer that wants it, and it wouldn't be here if the consumer didn't want to get their shopping done early," Guetschow said.
It's the start of a retailers dream, and the deals have shoppers showing up to make their dreams of a big Christmas gift a reality.
Though plenty of stores are open on Thanksgiving, many retailers vow to keep the day about family by staying closed. That includes Von Maur, Burlington Coat Factory, Bed Bath and Beyond and many more.
