2 men wanted for theft from grocery store in Sterling

A theft was reported at a Sterling, Illinois supermarket, and police are asking for the public’s help.

The theft reportedly happened at County Market just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015, according to a statement from the Sterling Police Department.

A white man was spotted on surveillance video stealing merchandise and leaving the store without paying for it, according to the statement.  Police say it was around $40 worth of items.  He was described as having short brown hair and wearing a brown coat with brown pants.

A Sterling Police officer said the man caught on camera entered the store with a black man, who was wearing a red baseball cap, jeans, and a black coat.  Police said it is believed that the two know each other; they did not leave the store together.

Officers are looking for the names of these two men.  If you have any information on who they are, you are asked to call the Sterling Police Department at 815-632-6640, or call Whiteside County Crime Stoppers at 815-625-7867.
