Republican Iowa U.S. Senator Joni Ernst is supporting dozens of governors across the country who are taking a deeper look into refugees coming from Syria.
"I think we should step back, assess the situation, make sure that all the appropriate vetting processes are working," Ernst said Thursday, November 19, 2015. "If enhancements are needed, then we go ahead and implement those enhancements before we starting bringing refugees in."
Ernst made the statement during a conference call with reporters Thursday. Ernst would not say how long her vetting process should last, but her statement comes three days after Republican Iowa Governor Terry Branstad announced a ban on Syrian refugees looking to relocate to Iowa. Republican Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner also announced a temporary ban earlier this week.
