A tornado watch was in effect for the Quad Cities area and counties to the west.
The National Weather Service issued the watch Wednesday afternoon, November 11, 2015.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Hancock County in west-central Illinois, Henry County (Iowa), Jefferson County, Lee County (Iowa), Van Buren County, Des Moines County, and Clark County.
StormTrack 8 Meteorologist James Zahara said storms were forecast to cross the Mississippi River between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. He advised that “a few storms may have enough rotation to produce funnel clouds or isolated tornadoes. If so, the focus will be centered in South-Central and Southeastern Iowa.”
A wind advisory was also issued for the viewing area. Strong winds Wednesday evening were expected to blow from 25 – 45 mph, with gusts of 55 mph or more.
