Cities across Illinois are waiting for millions of dollars in state paychecks, but some are being told that might not happen now.

As the Rock Island city council looks over the city budget, it can't help but notice there are some lines missing, money the state of Illinois is withholding.

Rock Island hasn't received from gaming or motor fuel tax in all of 2015.

"We`ve been told all along that all this money is piling up and as soon as the budget`s improved we would get our money back," said Mayor Dennis Pauley.

However now, Mayor Pauley says he's being told something different.

"The other day it was said that they`re not so sure we`re going to get it. They might just start from the day they start giving us money again, if they do that that`s going to impact everybody tremendously," said Mayor Pauley.

That includes $1.6 million from Jumers Casino that the city uses towards capital projects.

"We`re one of the only cities who will be hurting for the $1.6 million. That`s the dollars we get directly from Jumers, that most cities wouldn`t get," said Mayor Pauley.

There's also $46,000 for video gaming that goes towards the general fund and $40,000 from motor fuel tax used for street improvements.

"It's our money and we should get it," said Mayor Pauley.

He's says the uncertainty makes it hard to plan for the future with money they might not get.

"You`re on pins and needles for the next few months until you get a budget," said Mayor Pauley.

Despite possibly not getting the money from the state, Rock Island is not looking at raising property taxes for next year.
