At Mike Deahr's storage site, the soybeans flying up the auger make for a sweet symphony.

"We were at a point where we had to stop. We didn't have any room left. So we had a couple of days where we didn't do anything," said Mike Deahr, a farmer from West Liberty, Iowa.

Now back to work his crops will be part of what the USDA expects will be Iowa record harvests for both corn and soybeans.

"Mother Nature was very kind to agriculture this year and gave us a bountiful harvest," Deahr said.

But most of those bushels are now out of the field, and they have to be stored somewhere. Seeing the potential for a problem, Deahr had a new bin built a couple months ago. He says it was ready just in time.

"We started filling it the day it was hooked up. But there was no electricity to it. There's no unload facility in it yet. So the minute it was ready for corn, we put corn in it," explained Deahr.

Back down on the ground, harvesting his large corn crop put him behind schedule on soybeans. That delay means he now has to mix things up to make it all work.

"We're putting a little bit of soybeans right now in our wet corn bin where we normally dry out of just because it's a little bit wet. Otherwise we've never combined soybeans this late," Deahr added.

Running out of room and time to get everything out of the fields and inside a safe place.
