The St. Ambrose Athletic Dome has been deflated, but  this time it was on purpose.

Tony Huntley, the Director of Athletic Facilities at St. Ambrose, tells News 8 the dome was deflated on Thursday to make way for a new dome.

Huntley said the new dome will be built out of a different material and have a different cable system, making it more climate friendly. Huntley also said the new dome will be cleaner and nicer looking for the community to look at.

The dome hasn't been used since it collapsed from a snow storm in February. Crews also found mold in the dome while trying to repair it.

Student athletes have been forced to play at various different locations since the dome collapsed February.

Huntley said the new dome will be more beneficial for student athletes and the community.
