A small business owner in Davenport says construction on Harrison Street is killing her business and she may have to close her doors after 8 years.

"I'm really suffering," said Mary Augustine, owner of Neat Stuff. "In a month and a half my revenues have gone down 80 percent. In fact, I'm not making my rent, I'm only doing 20-30 dollars a day," she said.

The shop is filled with art, antiques, collectibles, and furniture.

Just last week she says, country star Miranda Lambert bought a back bar from her store, though she had no idea who she was until someone bought in a People magazine with Lambert on the cover.

"I gave her a special price break. I didn't know who she was," she said.

Now, Augustine says she needs a break. Since Brady Street went to two-way traffic during the time Harrison is closed due to construction, she says the change is causing confusion and headaches for customers and potential shoppers.

"With the barrels out there, it is very difficult. People that come around the corner tell me they're afraid they're going to be rear-ended," she said.

She asked the city to help pay a portion of her 17-hundred dollar rent, but was turned down and offered a sign and two parking spots.

So far, it's not enough.

"I've been hurt badly and was doing fine before the road construction. I'm a small business. My future? It's bleak," she said.
