Four vehicles crashed on Highway 61 in Burlington when a teen driver failed to obey a stop sign, according to a statement from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s office.

The teen was at a stop sign at Plank Road and turned left to go northbound on Highway 61 before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015, said the statement.  While making the turn, another driver, heading southbound on Highway 61, collided with the teen. Both cars ended up in the northbound lanes.

Then, a driver who was heading north on Highway 61 didn’t see the crash site “due to their lights being shut off,” but avoided them by swerving into the southbound lane, said the sheriff’s office. Another northbound driver came upon the crash and collided into the teen’s vehicle, and then struck the vehicle that had just avoided the crash, the statement said.

Both directions of traffic were blocked.

Nobody was injured in the crash.  The teen was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
