Two adults and four children were able to escape their Muscatine home when it started on fire.

It was around 8:40 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 when firefighters were called to the home in the 500 block of Maple Avenue.  Firefighters found smoke and fire coming from the second story of the home.

Crews were able to put out the fire, which had damaged an upstairs bedroom and the attic.

There were no reported injuries. The residents have been assisted by the Red Cross.

Investigators have not yet figured out what caused the fire.  The fire caused about $40,000 worth of damage.

Muscatine Fire and Police Departments were on scene and were assisted by the Fruitland Fire Department. There were more than a dozen firefighters on scene and investigators stayed on site until about 2:30 a.m. Friday.
