Illinois Lottery delays payments for winning tickets over $600

The Illinois Lottery announced that players who win more than $600 will not be able to collect their money until the state budget is set.

The Illinois Lottery announced that players who win more than $600 will not be able to collect their money until the state budget is set.

This payment policy change was set to take effect Thursday, October 15, 2015.

Starting back on July 1, 2015, the Illinois Lottery said they were delaying payments to winners over $25,000 because "the Illinois Comptroller has not had the legal authority to disburse their winnings."  Up until October 15, the Illinois Lottery said players who have won less than $25,000 have been able to collect.

Anyone who has won $600 or less can collect their winnings "at any of the Lottery's 8,000 retail locations statewide," according to a statement from the Illinois Lottery.
