Conditions are setting up for another dangerous day for fire conditions. On Monday, wind gusts topped 40 mph in spots. The highest gusts were around the Quad Cities.

While today won’t be as windy, the relative humidity will be quite low. On top of that, conditions out in the fields and forests are dry as we haven’t had any widespread rain for several weeks.

Yesterday, a rash of field fires broke out in the afternoon.  Fire Chief Tyler Schmidt said the extra dry conditions and the gusty winds created a perfect storm, a reason to ask everyone to be more careful.

Please postpone any burning and think of your neighbors and firefighters who would be in harm’s way if something got out of hand. Wednesday will see calm winds as high pressure moves overhead.
