The City of Moline started offering residents some help with their leaf cleanup back in 1999.

After getting used to raking, mulching, and burning year after year, all residents had to do was get their leaves to the street.  Leaf suction crews would then go street-by-street, with a giant vacuum, sucking up leaves.

Fast forward to today, Moline residents still have access to this service.

Starting Monday, October 12, crews will be around sucking up leaves. The city is divided into three areas; two crews will be assigned to work on each area Monday through Friday until December 4.

If you're taking part in the leaf collection service, the city advises that you rake your leaves as close to (but not on) the roadway as possible.  Rocks, sticks, and other debris should be kept out of the leaf piles.

The city also is asking residents to not park in front of piles during collection periods because it makes it hard to get the leaf vacuums around and the heat from car engines can ignite leaves.
