The body of a truck driver was found inside an overturned truck in Milan, Illinois, before dawn Wednesday, October 7, 2015.
The truck was westbound on Airport Road, near Interstate 280, when it apparently traveled several hundred feet off the road. The truck went into the ditch and overturned, according to Milan Police Chief Shawn Johnson at the crash scene.
A passerby saw the truck on its side and called police to report it just before 4:30 a.m. First responders broke the windshield to get access to the cab, but the driver was declared dead at the scene, Johnson said.
The truck belonged to a U.S. Postal Service contractor, and reportedly was carrying mail at the time of the crash.
