Clinton promises to save Obamacare during Davenport stop

When it comes to health insurance, Hillary Clinton is all-in for the Affordable Care Act.

When it comes to health insurance, Hillary Clinton is all-in for the Affordable Care Act.

During a stop in Davenport on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, she touted the so-called Obamacare for now covering 18 million Americans.

"We've got to be really focused about how we fix what we have, so it works better for everybody," she told the crowd of about 300.

But thousands in Iowa aren't insured because it costs too much, and there aren't many choices.

"It's a toss-up," said Jennifer Gahagan, Davenport.  "Do you want to go without? Do you want to take the gamble? Or, do you want to stay protected?"

Clinton says there needs to be more insurance providers in Iowa.

She also wants more options for programs that serve the elderly, low-income and veterans.

"We cannot let those who do not want to provide health care to run the debate about this," she said.

She supports finding ways to lower prescription costs and out-of-pocket expenses.  That resonates with these voters.

"We have way too many people having to file bankruptcy because of medical bills," said Linda Clough.

Clinton says it's important not to step backwards and start from scratch.

She does not want to go back to the days of denials due to cancer, or higher premiums for women.

"I think America is great, but we can be greater if we do what we need to do together," she said.

For Iowans, that means working together to improve health care.
