Alcohol and speed blamed for fatal motorcycle crash in Davenport

Preliminary investigation showed alcohol and speed contributed to motorcycle crash that killed a man in Davenport, Iowa.

The man, later identified as 20-year-old John Goodman of Davenport, was southbound on Pershing Avenue when his motorcycle struck a curb and he lost control just before 2:30 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2015, according to Davenport Police.  Goodman was separated from the motorcycle which then caught fire.

Goodman was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

The day after the crash, police issued a statement identifying Goodman as the motorcycle rider; they also said he was "wearing appropriate safety equipment/clothing" at the time of the crash.

"Preliminary contributing factors to the crash are believed to be alcohol and speed," the statement said.

No other people or vehicles were involved.
