People from all over the area came to Galva, Illinois this afternoon to an event to raise money and bring back one of their community's daycare centers.

The tractor pull fundraiser was put on by the Galva Tri-County Tractor Pullers because of recent problems with the Illinois budget. The issues are hitting too close to home for some.

The Galva Kids First daycare center was forced to close its doors just last month because of state funding cuts. Since that day people have been working to raise money independently, without the state's help, to re-open the daycare.

The goal is to raise $10,000, and the hope is this weekend's event will pull in a few more thousand to help.

If the funds are raised, a group wants to re-open the daycare in the same building, but it will have a new name, Bright Beginnings.

Organizers of today's event say this is the first time the Tri-County Tractor Pull group will aid in this cause, and they are happy to do so.

"That's the main thing is being able to give it a shot and see what happens. Instead of sitting here saying I wish I did, we're trying it. Whether we're right wrong or otherwise, we will find out when the tally sheets come in," says Tri_county Tractor Pull member Jack Cathelyn.

And while opening is going to take more time, Bright Beginnings' founders focus on moving forward with positive thoughts and their community pulling them through.

There will be another fundraising event for Bright Beginnings on October 24 at Mary's Dining and Lounge in Galva, Illinois. The group is still looking for people to donate goodie baskets for the silent auction. If you have any questions or would like to help, call (309) 932-8303.
