The city of Davenport say it's app is doing it's job and helping police make arrests.

After the Sandy Hook shooting the Davenport Police Department wanted to take action.

"Through our research we found that very frequently someone else knows about a planned incident before it occurs," said Captain Jane Imming.

Two years ago they launched the Do What's Right app.

"We decided if we had a medium for someone who knows something to share that with us maybe we could prevent one mass shooting," said Captain Imming.

However, they found they could prevent other crimes, from traffic information to drug information. People can download the app for free then report a tip. Then within seconds it's sent to the police department where it's reviewed.

"There`s no human interaction needed. The community member provides the details of what they`re observing or what they`ve just seen or just heard," said Captain Imming.

They believe this is more comfortable than making a phone call to report a crime.

"The app is absolutely anonymous," said Captain Imming.

After its first year they already have 100 tips and the number has grown. There's no way to track how many tips have led to arrests but Captain Imming is just happy that people are using the app, "If you hear something, say something and that's what we`re asking our community members to do to help be the eyes and ears of our community to help prevent crime."

Police can also use the app to ask follow up questions to the person who sent in the tip.
