A Clinton, Iowa man has been charged with burglary and robbery after police say a Camanche resident caught him inside her vehicle.

It happened Thursday, September 17, 2015, when a Camanche woman went out to her vehicle, which had been parked in an attached garage, around 7:45 a.m., according to a statement from Sgt. Richard E. Schmitz Jr.  In the garage located in the 1200 block of 23rd Avenue, she spotted a man, identified as 18-year-old Jakob Allen Namer, in the passenger side of her vehicle.

Schmitz said in his statement that the woman opened the driver-side door and asked Namer what he was doing.  Namer then got out of the car and walked to the back of the garage toward the exit.

The woman followed Namer, and noticed that he was holding a “hunting style knife with a blade” that she described as about four to six inches long, the statement said.  Police were told that Namer then “nodded his head towards the knife as he stated that she needed to let him leave.”

Police said the woman called for her husband to come out to the garage.  The husband also saw Namer holding a knife and saw “several other knives in his pants pockets,” according to the statement.

Before leaving, police said Namer set items he had taken from the vehicle on top of a garbage can in the garage.

Namer was arrested Wednesday evening, September 23, 2015 and charged with first degree robbery and first degree burglary. He was being held on a $50,000 bond.
