5 suspects identified in connection with Bettendorf vandalism

Police say they’ve identified five people suspected in a series of vandalism to cars and property in the Deerbrook area of Bettendorf, Iowa.

Police say they've identified five people suspected in a series of vandalism to cars and property in the Deerbrook area of Bettendorf, Iowa.

Mailboxes, vehicles, and yards were included in a vandalism spree that happened overnight in the Deerbrook Addition neighborhood and along Devils Glen Road, Saturday night into Sunday morning, September 19 and 20, 2015.  More than a dozen incidents were reported near the entrance to Devil's Glen Park and near the Duck Creek bridge and bike path.  Tires were slashed, vehicles were dented and a brick was thrown through the windshield of one of the targeted cars.

Police said they received numerous tips and leads in the case.  Three juveniles and two adults were identified as suspects according to a statement from the Bettendorf Police Department.  The suspect names were withheld until charges are formally filed with the juvenile and district courts.

"Once the total damage costs are determined from the victims, then the appropriate degree of criminal mischief will be determined and charges will be filed," the statement said.  "The Bettendorf Police would like to thank the public for calling in with information that assisted with the investigation which eventually led to the solving of this case."

The night after the Deerbrook-area vandalism was reported, vandals reportedly hit the Terrace Park neighborhood area in northwestern Bettendorf.  A garage was burglarized, and vehicles were stolen and burglarized in at least a dozen incidents that night.  Police said they did not think it was related to the Deerbrook-area vandalism.
