Two teenage girls were taken into custody after police say they stole two vehicles in Jo Daviess County.

A vehicle was reported stolen around 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 from the 200 block of North Main Street in Elizabeth, Illinois, according to a statement from the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.  It was not known where the vehicle had been taken.

Twenty minutes later, a deputy spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the one that was reportedly stolen and pulled it over on Route 20 near Simmons Street, the statement said.  The deputy determined that it was the same car that was reported stolen.

Two teenagers, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were taken into custody and officers found out that the girls had been involved in another vehicle theft from earlier, according to the sheriff’s statement.  The girls had abandoned the vehicle in Galena, Illinois, police say.

Both the teens were taken to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office where they were set to be released to their parents.

The incident was still under investigation and charges were pending through the juvenile court system.
