Fight escalates and leads to shot fired at Davenport convenience store

A verbal altercation, involving about 10 people, escalated until someone fired a shot from a handgun at a convenience store in Davenport, Iowa.

A verbal altercation, involving about 10 people, escalated until someone fired a shot from a handgun at a convenience store in Davenport, Iowa.

Police said it all happened just after 3 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2013, at the Kwik Shop at 303 West Locust Street.

“The verbal altercation escalated when subjects began jumping on vehicles and physically fighting,” said a statement from the Davenport Police Department.  “As the disturbance intensified another subject produced and discharged a handgun.”

Police recovered shell casings at the scene.  Some property damage and minor injuries were reported as a result of the fighting, but no damage or injuries were reported from the shot fired.

Three people were charged in connection with the incident.

Marcus Brown, 26, was charged with felony intimidation with a dangerous weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and misdemeanor reckless use of a firearm.  Jail records showed Brown spent a little less than three hours in jail before he was released on $5,000 bond.

Ashley Blanks, 26, of Bettendorf, Iowa and Rodneshia McBride, 25, of East Moline, Illinois were each charged with rioting.  Jail records showed Blanks spent about 20 minutes in jail, and McBride spent just over an hour in jail, before they were each released on a $2,000 recognizance bond.

Police said additional charges were pending.
