Two people are under arrest and each charged with 22 counts of burglary for a rash of break-ins at storage units in LeClaire.

Joshua DeWeerdt and Megan VanDyke are in the Scott County Jail.

Police say they broke into the storage units in rural LeClaire, taking power tools, generators, antique weapons, and jewelry being housed there.

"Some people use a storage shed for stuff they're not using and maybe junk, but other people use them for sentimental items that mean a lot to the owners", said LeClaire Police Chief Shame Themas.

An officer on his nightly business checks saw a vehicle parked at the units, with some items and padlocks lying on the ground. A suspect ran off, but the parked truck left behind lead police to the suspects.

"We try to be a proactive police department and we try to focus strongly on preventing crime and one of those ways is to regularly check on businesses and residences in town and it paid off in this case", Chief Themas said.

"There may be other subjects involved, and we believe the potentially may be more arrests",
