Google Express shopping and delivery service comes to the Quad Cities area

Google’s shopping and delivery service has expanded to include much of the Quad Cities area.
Google's shopping and delivery service has expanded to include much of the Quad Cities area.

Google Express delivers goods from more than a dozen different stores including Costco, Kohls, Staples, Barnes & Noble, Ulta, PetSmart and Toys R Us.   The service offers next-day and some same-day deliveries.

"Shop for what you need all in one place, add items to your cart, select a delivery window, and check out using Google Payments. We'll process your order in the store and arrange for a driver to bring it to your address during your preferred delivery window," explains information on the Google Express website.

Shoppers who are not Google Express members will typically pay delivery charges that start at $4.99 per store, plus some additional fees for small orders under $15 or for alcohol.  Members can avoid some of those charges, and membership costs $95 per year or $10 per month.  They were offering a three-month free trial for new members until September 30.

"No need to tip the courier- he or she doesn’t expect tips and is compensated accordingly," the Google Express website says.  Couriers wear a uniform and a badge bearing the name of their delivery company.

The service was tested in California before it was expanded last fall to include Chicago, and their latest Midwest expansion in early September 2015 adds service to customers in Iowa and Illinois, including the Davenport and Dubuque areas.
