For a week in September, Galesburg residents are encouraged to clean out their unwanted stuff and place it at the curb for free pickup.

Clean up Days have been set for September 14 – September 18, according to a statement from a spokesperson with the City of Galesburg.

“During this special week, most things can be placed at the curb on your regular refuse pick up day by 6 a.m. without extra charge,” the statement said.  They asked that any unwanted items be bagged and bundled.

This would include unwanted items from the attic, garage, or basement like appliances or furniture.

Waste Management Staff will not accept the following items:

  • Liquid paint
  • Auto batteries
  • Propane tanks
  • Demo waste
  • Concrete chunks
  • Large auto parts
  • Motor oil
  • Tires

The following electronics devices will not be accepted:

  • Computer equipment
  • TVs
  • FAX machines
  • DVD players
  • VCRs
  • Video game consoles
  • MP3 players
  • Digital converter boxes
  • Cable/satellite receivers

Any yard waste needs to be put in appropriate containers.  Large items like play sets or antenna towers should be broken down or disassembled.  Doors on any large appliances need to be removed for safety.

Clean up Days are strictly for Galesburg residents and out-of-town waste is prohibited. In addition, anyone scavenging items from the curb could be fined.
