Two pedestrians were reportedly struck by a train in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Reports initially indicated that both pedestrians had been killed, but later it was reported that one was still in critical condition.

It happened around 8:45 a.m., Sunday, August 30, 2015, when a man and a woman were walking across the train tracks at Lincoln Street, according to a report by KILJ Radio.

According to KILJ's report, a witness said the two pedestrians had been standing on the sidewalk waiting for an eastbound train to pass.  Once the train passed, the two tried to cross, but were struck by a westbound train, the report said.

Initially KILJ's report said the man died instantly, and the woman was later pronounced dead.  The report later indicated that the woman was still in critical condition.

A spokesperson from the Henry County Sheriff's Office said a portion of N. Lincoln Street was closed for the investigation.  The only crossing open over the train tracks was at White Street.

Train traffic had been stopped in the area and remained shut down after noon.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office would not yet confirm any injuries or fatalities.
