A Muscatine man was sentenced to ten years in prison for his role in a conspiracy to deal cocaine in that city.
Pedro Cabrera Lopez Jr., also known as Pedro Lopez Cabrera Jr., was indicted for being involved in a group dealing “large amounts of cocaine” in Muscatine in 2006 and 2007. More than two kilograms of cocaine was involved in the conspiracy, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Nicholas Klinefeldt.
Prosecutors said Cabrera Lopez went to Mexico for about seven years after he was indicted, but was extradited back to Iowa after he was arrested in Texas in November 2014.
Records from the Iowa Department of Corrections showed he was previously paroled after being convicted in 2004 for possession of a controlled substance. Iowa court records showed he was also previously convicted of drug charges in the late 1990s.
“Cabrera Lopez pleaded guilty on April 22, 2015, to the charge of conspiracy to distribute at least 500 grams of a mixture or substance containing cocaine,” the statement said.
Cabrera Lopez was sentenced to 120 months in prison at a hearing in federal court Wednesday, August 26, 2015. He was also ordered to serve four years of supervised release after the prison sentence, and to pay $100 to the Crime Victims Fund.
