K&K True Value Hardware celebrated its 75th anniversary.

The store has been a family-run business since Boyd Keller opened the store in 1940.  The family celebrated the milestone Saturday, August 22, 2015.

In honor of the longstanding Quad Cities store, Mayor Bob Gallagher gave Boyd's son Don a "Key to the City" of Bettendorf, Iowa.

"It's truly an icon in downtown Bettendorf," Gallagher said. "And as we continue to rebirth our downtown, we're glad K&K is here as our anchor in the downtown area."

Don said he was accepting the key for his family and especially his dad, who he said "would be so proud of the kids."

"I'm lucky to have all three of my children be a part of this business, and it's an honor to serve the loyal customers we have in Bettendorf," Don said.

Family members and employees are hoping to continue this longstanding tradition.

Employee Kortney Gaura said she would like to see the business stick around for another 75 years.

"I hope that we can grow the business," said the owner's sister, Darlene Kennedy, "and stay here and just continue to serve the community the way we've been doing."

Community members helped the family celebrate by joining them for a party in their parking lot with food, a bounce house, and well wishes for another 75 years.
