Drivers and businesses will be impacted by the closure of Harrison Street, but being right in the thick of their own construction as well, Davenport Central High School is forced to make some extra accommodations.

Since the school’s parking lot won’t be accessible, a traffic plan has been set in place for when classes begin August 24.

The Davenport School District is leasing parking space from Palmer College of Chiropractic, located south of the high school, according to Davenport Today.  To allow access to the parking lot, Davenport Public Works built a cutout that leads to an alley that runs from 7th Street to 8th Street.

When students leave the parking lot in the afternoon, they will exit on the north side of the parking lot to 8th Street, then head east to Main Street, head south to 5th Street where they will be directed onto Brady Street. A temporary traffic signal has been set in place there, where the roadway turns into two-way traffic.

There will be no parking permitted on 14th Street between Harrison and Brady Streets. Parking will also not be permitted on Palmer Drive between Main and Perry Streets.

Traffic control was expected to be in place in the mornings when staff and students are arriving and then again when school lets out at 2:30 p.m.

Harrison Street will be shut down from East 5th Street to the south side of West 12th Street Monday, August 17, 2015 for resurfacing.  The project was set to be finished by December 28.

Davenport Central is working on construction of an auditorium and pool.   Click here to see the latest plans from Larrison & Associates Architecture.
