Personal information of more than 1,000 Illinois Department of Corrections employees has been inadvertently shared.

The department found out about the security breach Friday, August 14, 2015.  In a letter to multiple Illinois lawmakers, the department's acting director, Gladyse Taylor, said information, including employees' names, Social Security Numbers, ranks, salaries, and job duties were shared during a Freedom of Information Act request.

The employees were from Lawrence and Dixon Correctional Centers, according to Taylor's letter.

A spokesperson from the Illinois Office of Communication (IOC) and Information said they were in the process of notifying employees who were involved in the security breach.

"We sincerely apologize for the release of this personal information and we are working to remedy the situation," said a statement from the IOC.

The IOC also indicated that they did not believe any of the information was being misused.
