As predicted, hundreds of Illinois workers will be cut from the new company’s payroll following the merger of Kraft and Heinz.
The merger was announced in March 2015 and completed in July, making Kraft Heinz the third-largest food and beverage company in the United States and fifth-largest worldwide according to the Chicago Tribune.

The cuts, which include 700 workers at Kraft corporate headquarters in Northfield, Illinois, were to take effect immediately. About 2,500 workers in the U.S. and Canada will lose their jobs as a result of the cuts; there was no word yet on where the remaining cuts would occur.
Kraft Heinz has Iowa facilities in Davenport and in Muscatine.
The Northfield headquarters will also move to a smaller space in the Aon Center in downtown Chicago. The company’s other headquarters will remain in Pittsburgh.
